Neighbourhood and Community Planning Documents

Ways for communities to influence planning

We want to encourage local communities in West Berkshire to get involved in the planning process, and community-led planning documents are a good way to do so.

There are a number of different types of document that can be created by communities depending on what they would like to achieve:

Neighbourhood Plans

Neighbourhood Plans form part of the development plan, allowing local communities to put in place planning policies for the future development and growth of their area.

Village, Town and Parish Design Statements (VDS)

Village Design Statements (VDS) are produced by the community to identify local character and set out design guidance to help guide new development.

Community Plans

Community Plans (also called 'Parish Plans') give local people the opportunity to engage with other residents, community groups, and service providers to set out a vision for their community.
