Business Rate Reductions and Relief

There are a number of rate reductions and reliefs that businesses can apply for. You can find more information in our Icon for pdf Business Rates guidance for 2022/23 [1MB]  or on the GOV.UK website.

Retail Discount 2022/23

The 2022/23 Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Rates Relief scheme will provide eligible, occupied, retail, hospitality and leisure properties with 50 per cent relief, up to a cash-cap limit of £110,000 per business.

COVID-19 Additional Relief Fund (CARF) 2021/22

This business rates relief scheme has now stopped but it aimed to provide financial support to businesses for 2021/22 who:

  • Are not be eligible for other COVID-19 related business rates reliefs or discounts and who are not eligible for the Extended Retail Discount (covering retail, hospitality and leisure), the Nursery Discount or the Airport and Ground Operations Support Scheme. 
  • Have been adversely affected by the pandemic and have been unable to adequately adapt to that impact.
  • Are occupying a rated premise in West Berkshire since 1 April 2021. Businesses who are liable to pay empty property rates are not eligible for this scheme.
  • Have remained trading throughout 2021/22. Businesses that may have moved premises during this time will be considered for the relief, however, they must have occupied a rated premise in West Berkshire on 1 April 2021 and have moved to another occupied rated premise within the borough.

As this scheme ended on 30 September 2022, no further applications can be considered.
