We are excited to announce that the new SEND and Inclusion Strategy 2024-2029 is now published!

We'd like to say thank you to everyone who provided feedback as part of the development of the strategy - through your attendance at case review sessions, coffee mornings and completion of surveys, to name a few ways you've contributed.

We have listened to your feedback and identified the following 6 priorities for the next five years:

  • Priority 1: Early Years
  • Priority 2: Early Intervention
  • Priority 3: Inclusion
  • Priority 4: Developing Local Specialist Provision and Support
  • Priority 5: Strengthening Alternative Provision
  • Priority 6: Preparation for Adulthood

There is a detailed delivery plan that explains the actions we'll take under each priority. The delivery plan ensures we stay on track to meet our goals. We will review this plan each year.

Our progress

We didn't wait for the strategy to be published to start our work. We have been working hard to achieve the goals set out in our delivery plan. Here are some of the things we have done so far:

  • created the Innovation in SEND blog
  • delivered training to our Early Years and Foundation Stage 1 and 2 settings
  • started work on developing guidance for schools on what good transition looks like
  • started work on identifying where we could place additional Resource Bases/SEND Units and to what SEND needs they would accommodate
  • started an audit of the Short Breaks offer
  • we have started looking into what support we will need to provide in the coming years
