Background

West Berkshire is one of 55 councils participating in the Delivering Better Value in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Programme (DBV in SEND), in conjunction with the Department for Education (DfE), Newton Europe, and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

The DBV Programme aims to support councils and their partners to improve the delivery of SEND services for children and young people whilst working towards financial sustainability. It will do this by identifying changes that will make the biggest difference in getting better outcomes, and using the resources we have in most efficient way.

It places children and young people with SEND at the centre of the approach and decision-making, and will draw on the knowledge and expertise of front-line staff and local partners.

The programme supports councils to develop an improvement plan and apply for a £1-million grant from the DfE to fund improved outcomes for children with SEND in 2024/2025.

You can find more information on the DBV website here.

Why we want your views

We are asking parents and carers of children with SEND, education providers and members of the education workforce to tell us about their experiences.

We'd like to understand more about the services and support available to children and young people with SEND in schools, and where these are successful and what challenges are being encountered.

How to take part

If you'd like to take part, please complete our survey by midnight on Sunday, 29 October 2023. It should take about 10 minutes to complete.

If you have any questions about the survey, please email Hester Collicutt our DBV Project Lead at Hester.Collicut1@westberks.gov.uk

You can find information on our SEND services here.

What happens next

All feedback will be used to inform our grant application and to make sure that we spend any funding we receive in the areas where it's most needed.

All the information collected from the 55 councils taking part in the DBV in SEND programme will be brought together and used to identify good practices in delivering services for children and young people with SEND. In this way, all councils can benefit from what we have found out and understand the consistent themes and challenges and use this to inform their future policies.

We'd like to hear your views on our draft SEND Strategy, in particular our proposed Priority Areas, Principles, and their associated projects. We'd also like to know if it is clear and easy to understand.

You can find more information and how to take part here.

What you told us
