Background

The local list is a list of heritage assets within the district considered by the public (and West Berkshire Council) as having special local architectural, archaeological or historic interest. Locally-listed heritage assets are not on Historic England's National Heritage List for England

A heritage asset is described in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) as: 'A building, monument, site, place, area or landscape identified as having a degree of significance meriting consideration in planning decision, because of its heritage interest. Heritage assets include designated heritage assets and assets identified by the local planning authority (including Local Listing).'

What happens next

Your feedback will be taken into consideration, and a final decision made under delegated powers by the Service Director for Development and Regulation. Following this, the updated list will be adopted in summer 2024.

What you told us

We received 168 responses, the majority of which were broadly in favour of the proposed nominations. 14 people were against some of the proposed additions to the local list, due to concerns surrounding restricting future development and the proposed additions having insufficient historic interest.

What we did

We considered all the feedback, and a decision was taken to add a further eight heritage assets to the list.
