Small steps plan
Create a small steps plan with the pupil and family to encourage success.
- EBSA Plans should include small, achievable, supported steps
- share the plan with all staff and ensure a consistent message/approach
- ensure the child can achieve the step before moving to the next one; do not put too much pressure on them too soon
- regularly review and tweak the plan as needed
- recognise that reducing anxiety takes time, so expect slow progress... and even some steps backwards
- an EBSA Plan can only work when the school, parent/carer and child all want the plan to succeed
