Get involved in nature recovery in Berkshire

Natural England is working with local authorities across Berkshire (Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Bracknell, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire and Wokingham) to identify priorities for nature recovery and develop a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). 

Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) are spatial strategies to recover nature across England: part of the 2021 Environment Act. Together, they will cover the country in a Nature Recovery Network. Each LNRS will create baseline map areas of particular importance for biodiversity, before working with partners from many groups, from landowners to businesses, to environmental non-governmental organisations (eNGOs), and the public. Priorities for nature recovery will be agreed and these will be used to create a local habitat map. There will be an interactive map showing proposals at a local scale, depicting what needs to happen to achieve the agreed aims. This will link up with delivery mechanisms, such as Biodiversity Net Gain for Planning and Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes for land management including farming.

We want to make sure we preserve and improve habitats while also creating opportunities for nature to bounce back and thrive across West Berkshire, by getting everyone involved and engaged in this important initiative.

Our colleagues at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) are leading on this project and have set up some free introductory webinars that offer the chance to learn about the project and how to play a part in protecting and nurturing our environment.
