View Roadworks in West Berkshire

A map of roadworks, including those of utility companies, and information about road closures

The map below shows all current and planned roadworks in West Berkshire. Roadworks may be undertaken by the Council's own contractors, for example to complete road maintenance, or by external organisations such as utility companies, who need to access pipes or cables buried in the road.

The Council has a duty to co-ordinate all roadworks on its network to ensure that disruption to road users is kept to a minimum, while providing a safe environment for those undertaking the work.

Road Closures

Some roadworks cannot be undertaken safely whilst the road is open to traffic, which means they need a temporary road closure. We understand road closures are inconvenient, but they are required to ensure that works can take place efficiently and safely.

When a road needs to be closed, advance notice signs will be placed on site several days before the work is due to start. Where possible, we send out letters in advance of any work we will be carrying out and we also ask utility companies to do the same. However, if we need to make changes to the schedule at short notice, we are sometimes unable to do this in time.

Access to Your Home or Business

When a road needs to be closed, we will make every effort to ensure that properties directly next to the work being carried out still have access. Unfortunately, inconvenience can't be completely avoided, but we aim to keep this to an absolute minimum.

If your business is inside the work limits, we can't guarantee vehicular access during our work hours. We would ask you to make alternative arrangements. Businesses should encourage staff and customers to park nearby and use pedestrian access.

If your business is in the road closure area but outside the work limits, speak to the site operatives who will assist with essential access and deliveries.

Vehicle Access to Your Property if You Have a Disability

If you have a disability and need vehicle access to your property, please call our Customer Service Team on 01635 519080 with details of your requirements. If work is already underway, let our site operatives know your circumstances and they will do all they can to assist.

Home Deliveries

Delivery drivers are often happy to park nearby and use pedestrian access to make their delivery. To avoid disruption, consider rearranging any deliveries for after the work is finished, or outside the hours of the closure.

Parking

When work is being carried out, it may be necessary for you to find somewhere else to park until it is finished. We apologise for the inconvenience this might cause, but this is unfortunately impossible to avoid at times.

Rubbish and Recycling Collections

We'll work to make sure your collections will go ahead on your usual collection day, but we ask that your bins and recycling boxes are put out by 7am. This is to allow for the times of the collections to be varied slightly to take into account the roadworks.

Bus Routes

We notify bus companies well in advance of any road closures that are required. They will arrange alternative routes. Please contact your bus operator for more details.

Emergency Road Closures

Regrettably, it is sometimes necessary for roads to be closed immediately and without notice so that the Council, a utility company or the Emergency Services can deal with an emergency situation. Examples of this include fallen trees, burst water mains and serious road traffic accidents.

In these circumstances it isn't usually possible to put up diversion signs, and it can take time for us to update the interactive roadworks map. We do, however, try to put out as much information as we can through our social media channels to give the public chance to avoid the affected area.
