Council announces launch of Social Value Policy
West Berkshire Council is proud to announce the launch of its new social value policy, which will apply to the purchasing of goods and services in the district.
The introduction of this policy means that all suppliers and providers of council services will need to consider the core values set out by the council when bidding on procurement opportunities - ranging from climate change, local employment opportunities, and local community benefits.
Inclusion of social value priorities is now a requirement on all higher value procurements. However, the council aims to go over and above this requirement to require social value to be considered on all procurement activity, regardless of value, where it is possible to do so.
Councillor Ross Mackinnon, Executive Member for Finance and Economic Development at West Berkshire Council, said:
"Through social value we are supporting sustainable and inclusive economic development in West Berkshire.
"The policy will help to address social inequalities in the district, which can be done through good quality employment opportunities, community development, and environmental planning.
"Social value will play an integral part in employing local people, building local skills and local training opportunities, using local supply chains themselves and investing in local projects."
