About Newbury Vision 2026

The Icon for pdf Newbury Vision 2026 [1MB]  sets out how we want Newbury to look and feel for visitors and the community that work and live in the town.

What's happened so far

The original Newbury Vision was published in 2003 and a lot of progress has been made towards delivering the objectives that were identified at the time. Notable achievements include;

  • the development and opening of Parkway Shopping Centre
  • the pedestrianisation of Northbrook Street
  • the opening of the Vue cinema
  • Victoria Park enhancement
  • Museum/Tourist Information redevelopment

However, things have moved on since 2003, including significant shifts in the local and national economy, changes to the planning framework and our future housing provision.

Some schemes from the original Vision are not yet complete and will be taken forward in the revised Vision. These include a number of potential developments including a residential and commercial re-generation of the London Road Industrial Estate, enhancing the Wharf with water features and the pedestrianisation of the area around the newly restored museum.
